How to Beat Your Fear

Fear is a sneaky mother fucker. It shows up in many forms and plays mind games like a pro.

Fear may sound like a voice inside your head telling you:
You’re a failure
You’re stupid
You’re ugly
You’re too fat
You’re too dumb
You’re unlikeable
Your parents don’t love you
You have no friends

Fear will stuff you full of
Guilt
Regret
Stigma
until you’re nauseous and sick.

Fear will make you freeze in place, like a participant in the Squid Games Red Light, Green Light, waiting for that murderous doll to turn back around.

But Fear is a liar. Fear is:
F-false
E- evidence
A-appearing
R-real

Fear may have kept you from harm once, but it’s time to regain your power and punch Fear in the face.

Can you imagine how empowering it is to express your thoughts without worrying about managing the other person’s reaction?

Can you recall the last time you didn’t put the needs and wants of others before your safety and health?

What if you used all that metal space busy with Fear’s machinations and lies for art, music, hikes, delicious food, and friends? Take a moment and tally all the time, physical toll, emotional exhaustion, and spiritual drain Fear takes from you. And what can your life be like when you reclaim it?

Try this exercise to define the Fear controlling you.
Imagine pulling the Fear out of your body.
What does it look like?
Is it a color?
Does it have a shape?
Is it an animal of a person or something else?
Does it stink?

Imagine pulling this Fear out of you and cutting any strings or goo that connects you to it. Then say, “You cannot control me. You cannot hurt me. You don’t belong here. It’s time for you to go.”
And then imagine it floating away and never coming back.
Bonus points if you can write the Fear on white paper and burn it, severing all ties to you. Then, take a deep breath while you place your hands over your heart. Tell yourself, I love you.
